Basic Satellite Care Instructions & Troubleshooting for Dish Network

Basics

Allways turn your satellite receiver and television off when you are not enjoying programming. Simply press both the large red power button to shut off the receiver and the small red “tv” button to shut off the TV.

Note: If you have a dual tuner receiver such as a 322, 522, 625 or 942 be sure both the greenthe blue lights are off.

Be sure nothing blocks the view of you dish to the open sky, there is a possibiliy that wet sticky snow can build up on the dish if you can access your dish gently brush the snow off.

With a Dual tuner system note you cannot control TV2 with TV1 remote or vise virsa. So be sure the remote is at the correct TV location.

Remote Control

If you have not replcaced batteries recently check them first.

If your remote is not controlling the satellite correctly make sure it is in the satellite mode. The remote provided to you by Dish actually has the capability to control other devices as well as you Dish receiver. The remote must first be programmed using the Dish manual to contol each device (if the equipment was at the home at the time of our installation it should have already been programmed).

To use your remote to control other devices you simply select the mode for the remote using the four clear buttons at the top of the remote labelled (SAT, TV, VCR, AUX)

Troubleshooting

No picture: make sure the Television is on the correct channel or input.

For TV1 its either channel 3, 4 or an AV or Input line

For TV2 its either channel 60, 73 or an AV or Input line

Fuzzy picture:

If you have a VCR make sure it is not affecting picture

Check accessable coax cable for breaks or cuts

Make sure cables in back of TV are secure

Searching for signal and other speratic problems:

Soft Reset: Press and hold the power button on the receiver until it shuts off. It will turn itself back on and start rebooting. DO NOT interrupt let it go through the process.

Hard Reset: Unplug the Satellite receiver from the electrical outlet let it set for 10 minutes and then plug it back in. It will turn itself back on and start rebooting. DO NOT interrupt let it go through the process.

Check Switch: Press the menu button on the remote then opt 6 for “System Setup” then Opt 1 for “Installation” then Opt 1 again for “Point Dish”. Select the “Check Switch” option. At the install summary menu select the “Test” option. After the test is done just exit out of all the menu screens and let it do its download. Then the channels should appear on their own.
